Day 3: Embarking on a thrilling journey to encounter gorillas in the heart of Bwindi Impenetrable National Park
For countless adventurers, this marks the pinnacle of the Uganda Gorilla Trekking Wildlife Chimps Safari!
Once you have enjoyed your breakfast at the camp or lodge, your driver will be ready to take you on an exhilarating journey for gorilla tracking in the enchanting Afro-montane rainforest of Bwindi. But first, you will embark on the pre-gorilla trek briefing at the park office. While here, a wealth of knowledge about gorilla conservation and ecology is unveiled. You will receive guidance on proper conduct during gorilla trekking, instructions for handling emergencies, and be assigned to a specific gorilla group or family for your visit.
Your journey will lead you into the heart of the Bwindi forest, where you will seek out the rare mountain gorillas.
Primarily, Bwindi consists of lush, forested slopes adorned with dense undergrowth throughout, and bamboo thriving in certain areas. Most trekkers embark on a journey that lasts 1-3 hours to encounter the mountain gorillas, but the duration varies based on the gorillas’ location that day and the weather conditions during the hike.
Upon arriving at the spot where the gorillas spent the night, you will have the opportunity to explore the nests and the gorilla camp before moving on. At this moment, the gorillas are likely only a few meters away from you. You will hear their hoots echoing through the trees, branches snapping underfoot, and the sound of chests thumping in the wild. As you catch your first glimpse of the majestic gorilla, you will be led to a secure viewing spot, ensuring you are at least 6 meters away from these incredible creatures. You will have 1 hour to immerse yourself in the experience with the mountain gorillas. Typically, the rangers provide a bit more time than just one hour, but not excessively so.
It will then be time to journey back to camp. As you journey through Bwindi, you may come across a variety of wildlife, featuring 120 species of mammals, including 10 types of primates such as the unhabituated chimpanzee, L’Hoest’s monkey, red-tailed and blue monkeys, black and white colobus, and baboons. If you have a passion for birdwatching, you may catch sight of or hear some of the 350 species that call Bwindi home, including 7 that are listed on the IUCN red data list.
Exciting accommodation options await you, all offered on a full board basis.

Chimpanzee tracking in the gorge is an extraordinary experience, as some of the chimps have become accustomed to human presence, allowing them to continue their daily activities while surrounded by people. Kyambura is the sole destination in the park where you can encounter habituated chimpanzees along with various other primates such as red-tailed monkeys, black-and-white colobus, baboons, and vervet monkeys. This region is home to a diverse array of bird species, including various falcons, the striking blue-headed bee-eater, and the elusive African Finfoot.
