6 Days Rwanda Primates Safari Detailed itinerary
Day 1: Arrival for an exhilarating journey into the heart of Rwanda’s primate wonders
Today marks the beginning of your thrilling 6-day journey through the wonders of Rwanda, where encounters with primates await. Your driver guide will greet you at the airport and whisk you away to your hotel. After settling in, you’ll embark on an exciting tour of Kigali, tailored to fit your arrival schedule. Explore remarkable destinations such as the Kigali Genocide Memorial, Kandt Museum, and the vibrant craft market. If you arrive in the morning or early afternoon, you will embark on an exciting city tour before heading to your hotel. However, if you arrive in the late afternoon, you will be taken straight to your hotel.

Day 2: Journey to Nyungwe Forest National Park
Nyungwe Forest, RwandaThe journey from Kigali to Nyungwe Forest National Park will awaken your senses as you revel in the diverse landscapes along the way. Nyungwe forest is situated in the southern region of Rwanda, on the way to Burundi and certain areas of the Congo. The journey to Nyungwe forest will kick off bright and early after your breakfast, with an exciting first stop in Nyanza before we continue on to Huye to explore the ethnographic museum. In Nyanza district, you can explore the Kings Palace Museum, offering a captivating alternative to the ethnographic museum. Your driver guide will be happy to chat with you about which museums to explore based on what excites you the most. They both reflect Rwanda’s rich cultural history, yet the ethnographic museum boasts a greater variety of items and broader coverage. Arrive in Nyungwe forest later that evening and head to our lodge for an overnight stay.

Day 3: Rwanda Exploring the world of chimpanzees and traversing the heights of the canopy

Your driver guide will whisk you away from your lodge to the briefing area nestled in the forest, where your adventure awaits as early as 5:00 am. You will find yourself at either the Uwinka trail head or the Cyamudongo trail head. The ranger guide will provide you with exciting chimpanzee trekking tips as you explore the forest. The forest brims with an incredible variety of plant life and shelters 13 species of primates, such as the Ruwenzori colobus, L’Hoest’s monkeys, Red-tailed monkeys, silver monkey, and grey cheeked mangabey. It also boasts around 300 bird species, including several unique to the Albertine rift, along with numerous butterfly species.
In the afternoon – embark on the canopy walk trail starting from the Uwinka trail head. Immerse yourself in the breathtaking sights of the forest on this journey.

Day 4: Embark on a thrilling Colobus Monkey Trekking adventure and journey to Volcanoes National Park
Today after breakfast, embark on an exciting journey back to Nyungwe forest for an exhilarating experience tracking Colobus monkeys. Similar to chimpanzee trekking, you will receive an informative briefing from the community guide before embarking on your journey into the forest. For one hour, you can immerse yourself in the lively antics of the Colobus monkeys as they engage in feeding, playful interactions, and grooming rituals.
Following this experience, embark on a journey to Volcanoes National Park in the Virunga region. Embrace the twisting paths and breathtaking views of “a thousand hills” as you journey along Lake Kivu. Check into your hotel as the evening unfolds.

Day 5: Embarking on an exhilarating journey to trek with gorillas in Volcanoes National Park
Embarking on a journey through Volcanoes National Park for gorilla tracking will be the pinnacle of your 6-day primates safari in Rwanda. Encountering the gentle giants in their wild surroundings will leave an unforgettable mark on your soul. Following a hearty breakfast, you will grab your day pack, and your driver guide will whisk you away to the briefing point. Your ranger guide will connect you with the earlier trackers, guiding you to the location of the gorillas. The trek can span from an hour to several hours, depending on the location of the gorillas’ nest from the night before – being in decent shape will enhance your enjoyment of this experience.
Following the thrilling gorilla tracking experience in Rwanda, make sure to stop by the Gorilla Guardians Village (Ibyi’wacu village). Discover the vibrant Rwandan culture and immerse yourself in exciting activities.

Day 6: Tracking Golden Monkeys and Conclusion of the 6-Day Journey Rwanda Primates Expedition golden-monkey-in-rwanda
Awaken to the vivid recollections of yesterday’s escapades in the jungle alongside majestic mountain gorillas. Today, you will venture back to the park for an exhilarating experience observing the golden monkeys. Following the briefing from the ranger guides, embark on your journey by driving to the starting point and setting off on the trek. Just like with gorillas, you get to spend an hour in the company of the golden monkeys. They are more energetic than gorillas but will provide you with an enriching experience.
After this thrilling experience, head back to the lodge to refresh, enjoy a delicious lunch, and then set off for Kigali to catch your return flight home to your hotel.
