4- Days of Double Gorilla Trekking in Rwanda
For visitors interested in tracking mountain gorillas on two separate days with two distinct gorilla families, Rwanda’s 4-day double gorilla trekking excursion is the ideal choice. This experience offers a unique opportunity to observe the differences in group dynamics and behavior among the two families. The duration of the treks may vary and can present different challenges, enhancing the overall experience.
Following each day of gorilla tracking, the program includes two additional activities. The first is a cultural excursion to the Iby’iwacu Cultural Village, where visitors can gain insights into the rich culture of the Rwandan people. After the second gorilla tracking experience, participants will have the chance to explore the beautiful twin lakes of Burera and Ruhondo.
Located in Rwanda’s northwestern region, the village of Musanze is home to Volcanoes National Park, which is characterized by its higher elevation due to the presence of five volcanoes within its boundaries. Approximately thirty percent of all mountain gorillas and sizable troops of golden monkeys reside here. In addition to golden monkeys, the park is home to various bird species and other wildlife, including buffaloes, bush pigs, hyenas, and forest elephants. Hiking Karisimbi and Bisoke, two of the Virunga volcanoes, is another popular attraction in the park.
Volcanoes National Park is not only known for its accessibility but is also a favored destination for gorilla safaris, even though it does not host the majority of the gorilla population. The scenic drive from Kigali to the park takes just three hours, making it convenient for visitors. The park provides well-organized gorilla trekking experiences, ensuring an unforgettable adventure.
The Iby’iwacu Cultural Village is a remarkable destination for experiencing the rich culture of the Banyarwanda people. Now known as the Gorilla Guardians settlement, it was established to employ former poachers, encouraging them to leave the park animals undisturbed. Today, it has evolved into a vibrant venue where representatives from all Rwandan tribes come together to showcase the beauty of their culture.
The program also includes visits to Lake Ruhondo and Lake Burera, which offer a serene and romantic atmosphere, especially for couples. These lakes are perfect for unwinding after an exhilarating gorilla trekking experience. You can rent a boat for canoeing or island hopping to engage with the local communities.
We are confident that our 4-day double gorilla trekking safari will leave a lasting impression on you as you connect emotionally with the gorillas. In Rwanda, a gorilla permit costs $1,500. If this price is a concern, consider our alternative four-day double gorilla trekking vacation that includes both Uganda and Rwanda. Each gorilla permit for Uganda costs $800, making it a more budget-friendly option.
