This hiking expedition offers an exhilarating experience that spans either five or seven nights.

The shorter option features a three-night guided Primitive Trail, covering around 40 km from south to north, inviting you to discover the breathtaking landscapes of Akagera. The five-night guided Primitive Trail spans 60 km and features a night at a fully catered tented camp at each end of the trail.

The Trail de Akagera offers a unique experience, with just 12 scheduled departures each year, perfectly timed for the vibrant months of August, September, and October. These months provide the perfect opportunity to immerse yourself in the park’s breathtaking landscapes and untouched nature. Each trail welcomes a maximum of eight participants, fostering intimate group sizes that offer plenty of chances for solitude, silence, and personal reflection.

To embark on the trail, you will need a backpack, ground sheet, Nyagatare sleeping mattress, sleeping bag, sleeping bag liner, pillow, head torch, cutlery, cooking pot, bowl, mug, dry bags, water bottles, Kelly Kettles, mosquito net (and pegs), bivy bag, toilet paper, and matches.

Kindly be aware that some items are not part of the trail equipment and should be packed by each participant personally. These essentials feature a quick-dry towel, personal toiletries, insect repellent, a hat, sunscreen, hiking shoes, sandals, binoculars (personal gear), and a lightweight poncho.
