San Camp : Rates, Reviews, Booking Information
The elegance of minimalism and emptiness
On the beaches of the shimmering salt pans of the Makgadikgadi – the vestiges of an ancient lake that once encompassed most of Botswana – the pristine white tents of San Camp are the sole edifices inside a 360-degree expanse of desolation. This low-impact, solar-powered campsite offers an opportunity to experience minimalist elegance and expansive surroundings.
Although the allure is in the absolute void, several activities and experiences abound. Engage with sociable habituated meerkats, accompany the Zu/’hoasi Bushmen, explore the desert during a game drive, traverse the pans on quad bikes while uncovering secluded archeological sites and fossils, or recline and see the expanse of the night sky. This is one of the few locations where you are nearly assured of encountering the uncommon and elusive brown hyena.
Four Twin Tents and two Double Tents provide en-suite toilets, verandas, feather mattresses, and hot water bottles. Despite the absence of electricity, facilities for charging cameras are available. The mess tent serves exquisite cuisine and contains a little natural history museum and library, while a tea tent and yoga pavilion provide additional inviting areas.
