Old Mondoro : Rates, Reviews, Booking Information
Familiarity with the pristine wilderness
In the Lower Zambezi National Park, the terms ‘pristine’ and ‘unspoiled’ are indeed applicable. Opened to tourism in 1990, stringent controls provide an uncluttered safari experience both on land and water. Guests are guaranteed one of Africa’s premier safaris, particularly in the region’s most diminutive and exclusive camp — Old Mondoro.
This 4092 km² wilderness is inhabited by more than 50 mammal species and 400 bird species that navigate the 120 km expanse of the Zambezi River, including its islands, lagoons, and floodplains. Diverse safari activities encompass daytime and nocturnal wildlife drives, bush walks, canoe excursions, river safaris or cruises, and fishing for tiger fish.
The camp overlooks a labyrinth of lakes inhabited by hippos and a grove of acacia favored by elephants. The lodging features low walls and natural materials beneath a tented ceiling, creating an open and adventurous ambiance, while canvas blinds, when lowered at night, provide protection and seclusion. King or single beds are adorned with beautiful mosquito nets, while the en suite amenities feature a private ‘splash tub’ that opens to the wilderness and the infinite stars at night.
