The abundant shores of the St Lucia Estuary host a multitude of thriving animals. The iSimangaliso Wetland Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, integrates densely inhabited terrestrial and marine ecosystems to offer a distinctive safari experience. Lake St Lucia features an impressive five habitats. The park, recognized as the largest marine lake on the continent, hosts an astonishing 367 bird species, making it a haven for birdwatchers, as well as four of the Big Five, including hippos and crocodiles.
