Isolated marine sanctuary at Chumbe Island Coral Park

Chumbe Island Coral Park is a private nature reserve established to safeguard and preserve one of the few coral islands in the area.  Reside in eco-friendly lodging on this diminutive isolated island, which has East Africa’s most pristine shallow reef.

Wander through this island paradise independently or discover the forest reserve and other sections of the island on guided excursions with a knowledgeable ranger.  Snorkel in the 33-hectare Coral Reef Sanctuary, where a diverse array of fish, stingrays, lobsters, and hawksbill turtles can be observed.  Visitors may observe the historic lighthouse and mosque, the island’s notable monuments, visit the Visitor and Education Centre, engage in birdwatching, and search for humpback whales during August and September.

The island’s hotels and accommodations are engineered to exert little environmental impact.  Reside in one of the seven eco-bungalows that overlook the sea and are just meters from the sandy beach and crystalline island seas.  Situated between the forest and the sea, each bungalow includes a bathroom, sitting area, and sleeping platform.
