Day 1: Arrival in Kigali and City Tour
The journey begins with a warm welcome at Kigali International Airport. Kigali, the capital city, is known for its cleanliness, vibrant culture, and rich history. After check-in at the hotel, embark on a city tour.
The tour includes a visit to the Kigali Genocide Memorial, where you will gain insight into the tragic events of the 1994 genocide and the country’s inspiring journey of reconciliation and renewal. Other stops may include Kimironko Market, showcasing Rwanda’s crafts and agricultural products, and the Inema Arts Center, which features local artwork.
In the evening, you will unwind with a traditional Rwandan dinner and prepare for the adventures ahead.

Day 2: Transfer to Volcanoes National Park
After breakfast, the adventure continues with a scenic drive to Volcanoes National Park, which is about 2 to 3 hours away from Kigali. The journey offers beautiful views of terraced hills, rural life, and stunning volcanic landscapes. Upon arrival, check in at the lodge, located in the foothills of the Virunga Mountains.
In the afternoon, there is an opportunity to visit the Iby’iwacu Cultural Village, where locals share traditional Rwandan customs, music, and dance. This visit provides a heartwarming introduction to the rich heritage of Rwanda.

Day 3: Gorilla Trekking Experience
One of the most unforgettable experiences during a trip to Rwanda is tracking mountain gorillas. You will begin your adventure with an early morning briefing by park rangers at the headquarters of Volcanoes National Park. After the briefing, groups set off into the misty forest to locate one of the habituated gorilla families. The trek can last anywhere from 1 to 4 hours, depending on where the gorillas are located. Spending an hour observing these majestic creatures in their natural habitat is a profound and humbling experience. Spend the rest of the evening relaxing at the lodge.

Day 4: Golden Monkey Trekking and Relaxation
The next day offers another thrilling primate experience: golden monkey trekking. These playful primates, with their bright golden fur, are a joy to watch as they leap through the bamboo forests. The trek is less challenging than gorilla trekking, making it accessible to a wider range of travelers.
In the afternoon, guests can unwind at the lodge or explore nearby villages to interact with locals. Optional activities include a nature walk to explore the scenic beauty of the region.

Day 5: Transfer to Akagera National Park
Leaving the cool, forested mountains behind, the safari heads east to Akagera National Park, a 5–6-hour drive through Rwanda’s countryside. Akagera, with its savannahs, lakes, and wetlands, contrasts beautifully with the forests of the Virunga.
Upon arrival, visitors settle into a lodge overlooking Lake Ihema. The evening offers a relaxed boat safari on the lake, where hippos, crocodiles, and a variety of bird species can be spotted.

Day 6: Game Drive and Wildlife Adventure
A full day is dedicated to exploring Akagera National Park. The day begins with an early morning game drive across the park’s vast plains and woodlands. You will have the opportunity to spot a variety of animals, including elephants, buffalo, giraffes, zebras, and antelopes. On a lucky day, you may also encounter lions, leopards, and rhinos, providing an exciting Big Five safari experience.
After enjoying a picnic lunch in the park, the adventure continues with either an afternoon game drive or a visit to the park’s southern sector for additional wildlife sightings. (optional boat cruise in lake Ihema where you will encounter several water animals including crocodiles, hippos, and a wide array of bird species).
