Situated within the vast Congo Basin lies a tropical rainforest of such magnitude that it is regarded as the Earth’s second lung, following the Amazon. At the core of this profound, shadowy, and thick natural sanctuary is the huge Odzala-Kokoua National Park, encompassing over 1,350,000 hectares. This location exhibits remarkable biological diversity and is inhabited by the formidable western lowland gorilla.

Odzala’s varied habitats—dense forests, expansive savannahs, meandering rivers, and woodland clearings—harbor a rich array of animals, including an impressive 400 bird species and 114 mammal species. The optimal location for seeing wildlife is the forest bais—wetland regions abundant in minerals, salt, water, and sweet grass. The park’s primary attraction is unequivocally its two habituated gorilla tribes, which visitors may observe and approach.

Odzala is situated in the northwestern region of the Republic of Congo and is accessible via a flight from Maya Maya Airport in Brazzaville. There are two camps in the vicinity: Ngaga Camp, the basis for tracking the western lowland gorilla, and Lango Camp, located on the periphery of a bai.
